Q. How established is the RainSoft brand?
A. Rainsoft products have been manufactured since 1953 and have an excellent reputation for durability and dependability.
Q. What about the water pollutant?
A. Cities are required by law to meet the MCLG Standards. Most do, but in the time the water leaves the plant and gets to your home, there are many substances that can become part of your water. Sediment and odors can also join the mixture. It’s safe to drink, but does it meet the quality you want.
Q. Isn’t the city water or most well water good enough without a RainSoft unit?
A. Most communities meet the Primary Drinking Water Standards. RainSoft can take that water, which may be loaded with hardness, minerals, tastes & odors, and turn it into super-sudsing, great tasting drinking water that meets stricter standards.
Q. How does RainSoft water treatment remove hardness?
A. By ion exchange. Particles and debris in the water that cause water to be “hard” are positively charged. The RainSoft resin has millions of negative exchange sites that are charged with sodium. Calcium, rock, iron, magnesium, and other heavy metals attach to the negative sites and “bump off” the sodium ions.
Q. Is activated carbon safe for drinking water?
A. Absolutely. It is recommended by the EPA for municipal water treatment plants.
Q. Besides providing quality water, what other benefits might I get from my RainSoft unit?
A. A survey of RainSoft customers, done by Joesph Ramos, Inc. Research Firm, found customers enjoyed savings on water heating bills and purchases of coffee, tea & juices; noticed improvement of eczema or dry skin; and saved time & effort in the household cleaning. It was also reported that there were substantial savings on cleaning & laundry detergent.
Q. What if I move?
A. You may exclude your RainSoft unit from your real estate contract and take it with you. Your Lifetime Warranty is good all over the world. RainSoft’s International Dealer network can help you re-install and provide service in most places (for a nominal charge to cover the cost of re-installing your unit.) For a change, call or write for the name of the nearest dealer before you move.
Q. How much sodium will be in my RainSoft water?
A. The amount will vary with the hardness of the water. Due to RainSoft’s patented regeneration system, there will be very little sodium in your water. You will have less sodium (from most city water supplies) in a quart of RainSoft water than is found in a slice of white bread. If your doctor recommends a sodium-free diet, the RainSoft reverse osmosis drinking water unit can greatly reduce the total sodium content of your water, including the sodium present in most water supplies before the RainSoft system.
Q. Will my RainSoft conditioner alter the pH of the water?
A. Not at all. If your pH needs adjustment, your representative will probably recommend additional equipment.
Q. I read that the use of a household water conditioner increases the amount of corrosion that can leak into the household water supply. Is this true?
A. No, this is not true. EPA tests show conclusively that corrosivity is unchanged following ion exchange water conditioning. In the past there was a misconception that soft water was corrosive, because of studies in the South East part of the U.S. where the water is also very acidic.
